81st Annual Chicago Boat, RV & Outdoor show - January 12-16, 2011 * McCormick Place

81st Annual Chicago Boat, RV & Outdoor show - January 12-16, 2011 *
McCormick Place

I visited the show on Thursday, January 20th, 2010 between 2:00 and
3:30 PM.
The first thing that surprised me was the number of people attending.
It was rather low.  I realized people are at work, etc, but still -
the boat and RV sections both had very few people in attendance.  I
wanted to go Saturday but work kept me away.  I hope they had a lot
more people showing up.

Of course I walked around handing a brochure for the RV CHECK APP
looking for advertising sponsors.  Didn't find that many.  Especially
the older sales folks did not seem to appear interested in anything
other than their local newspapers.  That's OK, it's a curve :-)

The boat section had a lot of great boats - everything from a 2-seater
small fishing boat to a few very nice, and very expensive yachts.  The
section that impressed me the most was the overwhelming selection of
pontoon boats - I am thinking of getting one large enough to roll my
VW onto it, and tow it behind the RV.  Now that I would buy.  Just day
dreaming.

The RV section was fun as well.  There were some new van conversions
that I was surprised by - they really came a long way, and especially
the new Mercedes was awesome.
There were not as many RVs overall as I would have expected.  I know
there's a lot of shows at this time all around the country, but I
would have thought that Chicago would bring a few more.
I saw only a handful of coaches, and that was surprising.

Vis-a-vis my section in the RV CHECK APP - How to buy an RV - I must
make a comment or two on some new improvements on the "party RV"
front.
I have seen the ultimate party wagon - LOL - it had an outside
kitchen, TV, entertainment system, and a full blown grill - and that's
not all.  The refrigeration provided outside was better than inside.
I was thinking that if I parked that in my driveway, I will have the
entire neighborhood as friends - instantly.
But going back to what I wrote in the RV CHECK APP - How to buy an RV
- I must ask: "Where and how often would I be able to make use of this
unit!?" - and I am certain there are folks for whom that would be the
perfect purchase - just a word of caution - be careful and don't be
"taken" by the party wagon when what you really need is a fully
functional Class-A unit for the family.
